Happy Pelvic Floor, Happy Life
When we think about what makes our daily life enjoyable, we often overlook a crucial and hidden factor: our pelvic floor health. Yes, you heard that right! That group of muscles sitting at the base of your pelvis is quietly determining how freely you can laugh, jump, and even sneeze without a second thought.
So, let’s dive into how a happy pelvic floor can lead to a happier life, one where playing with your kids or enjoying a morning jog doesn’t come with any unwanted surprises if you know what I mean..
A Little Laugh Goes a Long Way..
Have you ever had a time when your child or spouse does something so funny and you laugh so hard that your sides hurt? It’s one of life’s simple pleasures. For many of you, you have that fear of leaking, even just a little bit, when you laugh. So, you keep yourself from fully giving in to that belly laugh that makes your abs hurt.
Here’s why… Your pelvic floor muscles play a key role in controlling your bladder. Keeping them strong means you can laugh freely without worrying about incontinence. It might be hard to imagine being able to laugh your heart out, enjoy laughing with your kids, watching a funny tv show, or going to a comedy show. But, let me tell you, it is in fact possible!
Playtime without Pause!
For parents, grandparents, or anyone who loves spending time with little ones, squatting down to play or hopping into an impromptu game of tag is where some of the most cherished memories are made. I personally adore playing at the park with my nieces and nephews, but I used to find myself constantly stressed, calculating the distance to the nearest bathroom, wondering if I could make it there without an embarrassing leak, and double-checking if I had a change of clothes in the car—a concern I believe many of us quietly share.
However, the game changed when I focused on strengthening my pelvic floor and core! It’s like having your body’s own stability ball, offering support to your core, back, and pelvic organs during those sudden bursts of play. With a fortified pelvic floor, the fear of leaks fades, allowing you to immerse fully in the joy of the moment—whether you’re being chased in a game of hide and seek or laughing freely without a care. The relief and freedom that come from this strength are nothing short of amazing. Now, I can focus on creating those joyful memories, knowing my body has the support it needs, providing a level of confidence and peace of mind I wish for everyone.
The Freedom to Move!
Running, jumping, and even walking briskly are forms of freedom—freedom to explore, to challenge yourself. But when pelvic floor dysfunction comes into play, this freedom can feel restricted. Strengthening these muscles can not only improve your endurance and performance but also bring back the joy of movement without fear of leakage or discomfort. Whether it’s a jog in the park or a high-intensity workout, a healthy pelvic floor lets you enjoy every step, jump, and sprint, without the surprise.
A Restful Night for a Bright Day 🙂
A good night’s sleep is foundational to our well-being and happiness. Yet, frequent trips to the bathroom at night can significantly disrupt this. A strong and healthy pelvic floor can reduce the urgency and frequency of nighttime bathroom visits, ensuring you get the deep, uninterrupted sleep your body and mind need to tackle the day ahead with energy and a positive mood.
Confidence in Every Aspect of Life!
At the heart of our daily joys and interactions is confidence—the feeling that we can take on whatever the day brings without hesitation. From professional meetings to social gatherings, the assurance that your pelvic floor won’t let you down translates into a broader confidence in your body and yourself.
Personally, I faced challenges that tested this confidence; I had moments when I had to abruptly stop what I was doing to rush to the nearest bathroom, fearing leakage if I didn’t. Yet, overcoming these challenges has taught me it’s about knowing you can laugh, play, move, and rest without limitation.
The Path to Happiness…
So, how do we ensure our pelvic floor is in the best shape? The journey can be surprisingly simple and includes consulting a pelvic floor physical therapist, regular pelvic floor exercises, staying hydrated, lifestyle habits, practicing good bathroom habits, and seeking professional advice when needed (not youtube university….). Remember, pelvic floor health is a vital part of overall wellness and happiness, deserving of attention and care.
